Fans attending the Merritt Centennials game on Oct. 30 will leave the building as energy conservation experts.
Thanks to a new partnership between the British Columbia Hockey League and BC Hydro, Power Smart representatives will be on site to educate attendees on energy efficiency.
“The British Columbia Hockey League is thrilled to work with BC Hydro to help build a conservation culture in B.C.” said Glen Simpson, the league’s director of Sales and Marketing.
“We’re very proud that BC Hydro sees the league as an important partner in reaching out to hockey fans around the province.”
Hockey fans of all ages will be treated to interactive displays and activities on energy conservation.
BC Hydro’s Power the Games tour – which travelled the province all summer – will be set up at the Nicola Valley Arena.
Attendees can make a personal commitment to energy efficiency by joining Team Power Smart at the tour and be entered into a draw for a chance at winning Olympic tickets.
More than 130,000 British Columbians have joined Team Power Smart already. BC Hydro is trying to recruit 210,000 members to the team before the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
“We have big conservation goals for our province and need the help of all British Columbians – including passionate hockey fans – to meet them,” said Larina Lopez, Community Investment manager for BC Hydro.
“Team Power Smart members can commit to reduce their consumption by 10 per cent and get access to tools and resources to help them reach their goal.”
BC Hydro is also presenting the league’s Fred Page Cup Championship in March.
BC Hydro’s Power the Games tour brings together the spirit of energy conservation and the 2010 Winter Games.
Since the spring, the tour has visited more than 90 communities in B.C. Close to 7,000 British Columbians have visited the tour at more than 1,200 community events.
