Blazers riding ice rollercoaster

The roller-coaster that has been the Kamloops Blazers season thus far continued on its up-and-down path on the weekend as the team opened a six-game road trip through Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
The Blazers started their swing through the WHL’s East Division in the Queen City on Friday night with a game against the Regina Pats.
A back-and-forth battle all night, the Blazers tied the game at 4-4 late in the third period on a power play marker from Jake Trask — his seventh goal of the year — to send it to overtime.
Shots in regulation were 42-24 in favour of the Pats, but it was all Kamloops in the extra period as the Blazers peppered Regina goalie Dawson Guhle with four shots in just over two minutes before Zak Stebner finally found the net.
The following night in Brandon, the Blazers were outshot again — this time 43-15 — but managed to somehow stay in the game until the third period, when the host Wheat Kings scored three times en route to an 8-3 win.
Bronson Maschmeyer, Shayne Wiebe and Brendan Ranford scored for Kamloops in Brandon, which will play host to this season’s Memorial Cup tournament.
With that loss, the Blazers have now given up 24 goals in their last three games, dating back to Thanksgiving Monday’s 12-5 drubbing at the hands of the Medicine Hat Tigers.
In those games, Kamloops has been outshot by a total of 130-81.
