The defending Canadian College Baseball Conference Champion Thompson Rivers University WolfPack will hit the field today for the first time this fall.

The WolfPack will play a five-game series in Oktoks, Alta. against that town’s high-school program.

“We’ve been looking really good,” said WolfPack head coach Ray Chadwick. “I think this could be my best recruiting class.”

Chadwick admits that replacing all-star and now pro baseball player Kyle Dhanani will be a problem.

“But, we’ll be running the same type of team — emphasizing running, manufacturing runs, having good pitching and defence,” Chadwick said.

“This trip is being used for recruiting as well as getting all the first-year guys some game action before we play teams in our league.”

Jordan Broatch will get the start today.  The veteran pitcher spent the summer playing in the Western Major Baseball League for the Regina Red Sox, going 1-2 with a 5.26 ERA in 11 appearances.

Chadwick said new players to watch are infielders Matt Leschuk of Kamloops, Curtis Braun of Ottawa, Alex Condon of Victoria and Derek Florko of Abbotsford.

The WolfPack’s first fall home game will be Wednesday Sept. 23 at Norbrock Stadium against the Okanagan College Cubs.

EXTRA INNINGS:  There is still space available to play against the WolfPack in their annual 100-inning game on Saturday, Sept. 19.  Kamloops Fire and Rescue has put a team in to face TRU.

Chadwick is hoping for others, including the RCMP, to follow suit.  For more information, or to sign up, call Chadwick at 250-371-5713 or e-mail him at rchadwick@tru.ca.
