T-Birds 'love' the loops

“Two-a-days.”

The term is enough to leave some 300-pound offensive linemen shaking in their cleats.

But when you’re used to the wet weather of the Lower Mainland, two-a-days in Kamloops — in temperatures reaching the mid-30s — can be even more draining.

But the UBC Thunderbirds have enjoyed their time in the Interior.

“We all love it,” Billy Greene, the T-Birds starting quarterback, told KTW.

The sophomore pivot said the Tournament Capital Centre facilities and adjoining Hillside Stadium, have impressed the 100 or so student athletes who took part in UBC’s main training camp this week.

“This facility is awesome,” he said.

“We have nothing like this. All the meeting rooms, the indoor track, the basketball facilities, the weight-room — it’s awesome.”

The heat is another thing.

“It’s really hot,” Greene said.

“But the reason we came up here is we’re playing our first game at 2:30 p.m. on a Saturday, so we want to have that extra edge.”

The T-Birds kick off their 2009 Canada West football season on Aug. 29 against Simon Fraser University at Thunderbird Stadium on the UBC campus.

They leave Kamloops today.
