The host Kamloops Rattlers took a three-goal first-period lead and never looked back as they rolled the Armstrong Shamrocks 9-7 in Game 3 of the Okanagan X-treme Lacrosse League Shaw Cup semifinal on Friday night at Memorial Arena.

Kamloops will open the league title series against Kelowna on Monday night in the Lake City. Kelowna swept Vernon 2-0 in the other semifinal series.

Ken Hinds, Mark Jurista and junior call-up Curtis McIntosh collected the early Kamloops goals in the best-of-three deciding game.

The Rattlers fired four more in the second, this time from Hinds, former Shamrock A.J. Lockwood (2) and Jurista. Armstrong responded with goals by Pat Nelson, Logan Strohm and Brett Logan (2).

The Rocks tried to rally in the third frame, scoring three times to Kamloops’ one. Shawn Koenig, Nelson and Strohm completed the Armstrong attack. Hinds had the Rattlers’ goal to complete the hat-trick.

Armstrong assists went to Brett Heitman, Koenig, Chad Pounder, Kriss Yargeau, Ian Gowland and Strohm.

Shamrocks’ keeper Chad Pieper turned aside 38 shots, while Mike Smith recorded 41 saves for the Rattlers.
