Soccer Heat's last stand — at home

The Kamloops Heat will have a few new faces in the lineup as they close out the home portion of their 2009 Pacific Coast Soccer League Women’s Reserve Division schedule on Saturday at 2 p.m.
The Heat will be missing four regulars — all on holiday — as they host North Shore from North Vancouver at Hillside Stadium.
“It will certainly be a different lineup,” said Heat head coach Tom McManus. “There could very well be some younger players on the pitch this weekend. I’m sure they will all do well.”
Kamloops, which sits atop the division with a 10-1-1 record, will have a rookie in net against the 2-6-2 North Shore squad, as 17-year-old Richelle McDonald will make her PCSL debut as she prepares to join the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack next season.
Another player expected to see more action on the pitch is defender Nikki Swanson, who has been working out with the Heat for the last couple of weeks as she decides whether or not to attend TRU in the fall.
The Heat close out the regular season with a July 19 game in Chilliwack before Challenge Cup playoffs begin in Kelowna on July 25.
Meanwhile, the Kamloops Excel men’s team of the PCSL’s Premier Division are on the road this weekend as they battle for a playoff berth.
The club, coming off a 4-1 loss to the Vancouver Whitecaps Prospects in Burnaby last weekend, will be in Surrey on Saturday and in Vancouver on Sunday to take on the Thunderbirds.
Kamloops is tied for fifth with Victoria in the nine-team division, though the capital city club has a game in hand.
The Excel’s two games on the road this weekend will be followed by the final game of the regular season, July 19 in Victoria.
The Excel’s men’s reserve team will also close out the season on July 19 in Victoria.
The squad is not playing this weekend and has three ties in its last three games. Kamloops is tied for last on the six-team division.
The Excel and Penticton are both 1-5-3 with one game remaining in the regular season.
