Runners will be heading off-road in the second annual 5 Peaks Trail Running Series at Sun Peaks Resort.

Saturday’s (July 11) race is all about adrenaline as athletes run up steep climbs, down sharp descents and through wilderness trails.

The course on Tod Mountain has some incredible highlights, including the 500-metre elevation gain in a steep section under the Burfield Chair and the run through the West Bowl among colourful wildflowers that blanket the alpine.

“For someone who has never joined a race, or if you’re an avid trail runner, the Sun Peaks race is not to be missed,” said race director Matt Lepp.

“It offers an exciting atmosphere, a challenging course and a truly amazing off-road experience.”

More than 150 people are expected to participate in one of three different course lengths.

The Sport Course offers entry-level participants a 6.5-kilometre loop, while the Enduro Course offers more hard-core racers a variety of terrain over 12.5 kilometres.

For children up to 10 years old, there is the one-kilometre Scotiabank Children’s Challenge.

Race-day registration is $50, while registration online before the event is $40.

The Children’s Challenge costs $5.
