With the return of the three-time defending champion Seattle Studs and the addition of the Alaska Goldpanners, competition at the 2009 Kamloops International Baseball Tournament will be fierce.
But the man leading the charge for the host team is confident.
“I think we’ll compete pretty good,” said Kamloops Sun Devils head coach Ray Chadwick.
“We’ve had a pretty good summer with the guys that are here and we’ve added a few bats through the middle of the lineup to replace the guys that are gone.”
Chadwick said Seattle and Alaska will likely be the two favourites going into the tournament, which starts Thursday at Norbrock Stadium.
“It’s a lot more competitive with Alaska and Seattle in the loop for sure,” he said.
“They’re always competitive because they draw from a wide variety of schools and universities.”
However, don’t count the Sun Devils out just yet.
“Kamloops isn’t really aware of the type of talent that the city has produced and TRU has produced,” Chadwick said.
“We can come out in this tournament and compete against big-market areas.”
