Riverdogs open Canada Day Classic with win; Laces dominant early

The Kamloops Riverdogs opened their Daley & Company Canada Day Classic with a win on Thursday night.

The midget baseball team was down 4-0 early, but rebounded for a 6-4 win over Edmonton at Norbrock Stadium. 

Jordan Wolfe went six strong innings for the Dogs, giving up no earned runs, five hits and four walks, while striking out four.

Matt Pouncy got the save in the seventh inning, giving up no hits or runs.

 At the plate, Mike Richardson had two singles, a run and an RBI, Pouncy had two singles, a run, an RBI and a stolen base, while Cody Cole got the key hit that broke the 4-4 tie open in the fifth inning with a bases-loaded two-out single to drive in two runs. 

Next up for Kamloops is the Laces Baseball Academy Blue team at 3 p.m. on Friday, followed by an 8:30 p.m. game against Okotoks.

Both games are at Norbrock Stadium. 

In the only other game on Thursday night, Spruce Grove defeated Sherwood Park 8-7.

The tournament final is set for Sunday at 3 p.m. at Norbrock Stadium.

Early Friday (July 3) games saw 9am results saw Laces Blue destroy Calgary 25-3 and Laces White defeat Victoria 9-2
