It may be early in their rivalry, but Kamloops is winning over Kelowna when it comes to university baseball.
The WolfPack downed the UBC-Okanagan Heat 8-4 Tuesday night.
It was the third straight victory for the WolfPack over the Heat since the two teams started playing against each other this fall.
Veteran Jordan Broatch was the winning pitcher.
He went four innings giving up three hits and striking out two. He came on in relief of starter Nic Miskin.
Miskin went four innings striking out three and surrendering three runs.
The WolfPack scored six runs in the top of the first.
The Heat had three runs in the fifth.
Adam Halland was one-for-two with an RBI.
Yoshi Nakamura was one-for-four with two RBIs and a stolen base.
The WolfPack are on the road Saturday and Sunday playing doubleheaders against Kwantlen in Surrey.
Meyers win weekly honours
For a second straight week, a member of the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack Women’s soccer team has been named player of the week in the B.C. College Athletic Association.
Third year defender Shannen Meyer was given the honor for the past week.
The Pack hosted Capilano College and Vancouver Island University on the weekend.
Meyer was a force as she dominated in the air with her strong heading ability and was a physical presence whenever the ball was around her.
On Sunday against Vancouver Island University, Meyer scored the tying goal off her head from a perfectly placed corner kick in the first half.
Her defensive ability combined with her offensive threat on throw-ins, corners and free kicks help to make her team stronger and in obtaining four points this weekend.
“She was a tower of strength on the back end” said WolfPack head coach Eric Schweizer.
“Its great to see Shannen get the honour.”
Next up for the Wolfpack is a road trip to the Lower Mainland to play the Douglas Royals (Saturday) and Langara Falcons (Sunday).
The WolfPack are ranked fourth in the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association.
In the men’s standings, TRU has fallen from 10th to 15th this week.
TRU lost to Capilano and beat Vancouver Island University.
