KIBT was fantastic — but . . .

Congratulations to the organizers of the Kamloops International Baseball Tournament for staging yet another fine event, which wrapped up on Sunday, July 12.

The tourney was a great success for all those baseball fans who took in all or parts of the event.

The weather was great, the beer was cold and a lot of baseball was played and enjoyed by all.

However, I have just a bit of constructive criticism:

Please start the games on time as scheduled, except, of course, when games run into extra innings.

Thursday night’s one-hour delay was truly uncalled for as the teams were ready to play well before 9 p.m.

The warm-ups of the teams prior to the games are also unnecessary as there are baseball diamonds surrounding the main stadium that can be used.

With this great event taking place in the Tournament Capital of Canada, the City of Kamloops and its bylaw-enforcement staff should be ashamed at how they treated fans from Alberta.

These fans have attended the Kamloops International Baseball Tournament for 16 years and have always parked their RVs on a street near McArthur Island.

Only this year was the first time they were told to move their vehicles before 5 p.m. or risk having them towed.

There are no signs prohibiting such parking.

These RVs are self-sufficient and they have never left garbage or any mess whatsoever while attending the tourney.

To say the least, this was not a very cordial welcoming by our Tournament Capital city.

Other than that, KIBT once again organized a first-class event.
