On Nov. 10, 400 Grade 9/10 students from St. Ann’s Academy and South Kamloops Sahali, Valleyview and Barriere secondary schools were introduced to ESIS: Economics for Success.
ESIS is a fun-filled day at Thompson Rivers University, where students participate in activities that provide information on the importance of staying in school. The program is sponsored by Junior Achievement B.C. (JA).
Some 30 volunteers from a variety of businesses, not-for-profits, banks, institutions and local government spent the day with the students, working on activities that demonstrate to students the personal and financial benefits of an education.
Through activities, discussions and personal experience, volunteers shared their knowledge with students on the value of an education to their future.
JA would like to thank the tremendous support provided by the corporate sponsors: Investors Group, Little Caesar’s, Aurora Rotary Club of Kamloops, BMO Nesbitt Burns and the Kiwanis Club of Downtown Kamloops.
Little Caesar’s noted that making 100 pizzas for the event was the largest order it had ever processed.
Special recognition goes to School District 73 for transporting the students to TRU and to teachers for their interest and assistance to the program.
Special recognition goes to SD 73 transition co-ordinator Greg Howard for his ongoing support and dedication.
