Saturday is the day skiers have been waiting for as Sun Peaks Resorts opens with top-to-bottom skiing — one of the earliest opening days the resort has had.

The Sunburst Chairlift starts up at 8:46 a.m.

The Elevation and Crystal lifts will also be operating for skiing on various green, blue and black runs on Tod Mountain.

Resort staff credit excellent summer grooming and brush removal, an early snowfall and plenty of snowmaking for the early start.

The Austrian National Ski Team arrives on Nov. 17 and will be on the hills at the Nancy Greene International Race Centre practising for the upcoming season — and the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

Lift tickets for opening day are $54 for adults, $44 for students and seniors and $27 for children.

Nordic trails will also be open at $12 a ticket for adults.
