As of Monday, Kamloops RCMP and the Kamloops Search and Rescue were still looking for a Westsyde hiker missing since Saturday.
Benjamin Smith, who also goes by the name River, was last seen on foot going for hike in the Long Lake or Deep Lake area above Westsyde.
RCMP said the 37-year-old Smith is an avid hiker, but wasn’t equipped to be outdoors overnight.
He was wearing a heavy jean jacket, bright-coloured pants and a black and red backpack.
He stands six-foot-two and weighs 190 pounds.
Police are asking anyone with information on Smith’s whereabouts to call the local detachment at 250-851-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 250-374-TIPS (8477).
• Busy Halloween night for Mounties
While it was a busy Halloween for police, most trick-or-treaters in the city decided to keep a lid on their revelry.
Kamloops RCMP received 85 calls for service, mostly relating to disturbances, noisy parties and drunkenness.
Even with the flurry of calls, there were no major incidents reported from the Saturday night celebrations.
Despite Halloween falling on a Saturday, Const. Cheryl Bush said this year’s celebrations were comparable to years past.
“Nothing outrageous, just very busy and steady, as most Halloweens are,” Bush said.
Police were prepared for a busy night, employing a full contingent of regular and auxiliary officers, bylaw officers, Citizens on Patrol members and volunteers.
The city’s bylaw services did hand out a batch of fines, including three for noise infractions, four for parking violations and three for the illegal ignition of fireworks.
• A weekend trip that wasn’t a treat
It probably wasn’t quite the trip one Kamloops man expected to take on Halloween.
Police were called to a house in the 1400-block of Springhill Drive in Sahali early Sunday morning (Nov. 1) after the man, high on mushrooms, was trying to start a fight with someone inside.
When RCMP members arrived, they found the man lying on the floor making strange noises and kicking at people and police.
He was taken to Royal Inland Hospital for examination.
• Aberdeen ultimate fighting
An Aberdeen house party on Halloween night morphed into an ultimate fighting-style street brawl.
Several RCMP officers were called to the house in the 600-block of Dunrobin Drive to a report of 10 to 15 men fighting in the street.
However, by the time police arrived, the group had dispersed, along with one man believed to have been injured in the melee.
• Tag! You’re it — and $500 poorer
A downtown tagger has been tagged by eagle-eyed Kamloops RCMP members.
Mounties were patrolling the downtown core early Saturday morning when officers noticed two suspicious men in the 500-block of Seymour Street.
One man had just finished tagging a garage and was still in possession of spray paint.
Police arrested the 27-year-old man and issued him a $500 city-bylaw ticket.
This year is being considered the worst for tagging in a decade, according to the city’s Graffiti Task Force.
