Time to change time

It’s that time again — time to mess with all the clocks in your life and turn those hands (or numbers) back an hour as we revert to standard time, which has as its father a Canadian.

Sir Sanford Fleming, a Scot who came to the Dominion in 1844, became the chief engineer of the Northern Railway.

In that capacity in 1858, he helped design a rail system crossing Canada — and, while doing so, devised the concept of standard time, where the world is split into 24 time zones.

As we get ready to tamper with our tickers, take note there remain only 143 days before we spring ahead — to brighter days.

Have a great winter.
