Pacific Coastal Airlines will no longer fly between Kamloops and Vancouver, effective Aug. 1.

The airline final flight will be Flight 8P080 on Friday, July 31.

The company began flights between Kamloops and Vancouver on Oct. 22, 2007, but reports it has lost money on the route in all but three months of service.

“We’re very disappointed to be making this announcement today,” said Pacific Coastal vice-president Spencer Smith.

“Pacific Coastal Airlines was proud to be part of this community and, during our 21 months of operation, airfares had dropped on average more than 50 per cent versus those offered by our competitor prior to our entry into the market.

"We received and continue to receive strong words of support from local travellers and this was further confirmed in a recent consumer survey conducted by The Pulse Group on our behalf. Unfortunately, these words of encouragement along with our best efforts did not translate into sustainable passenger demand.

“Aggressive competitive pressure on both airfares and flight schedules resulted in a no-win environment for us and we can no longer allow the rest of our network to be compromised by the losses sustained on this one route alone.”

Customers holding confirmed reservations on this route will be offered full refund of their airfares by contacting the airline’s call centre at 1-800-663-2872.
