Authorities have released the name of the pedestrian killed in a downtown crosswalk last weekend.

Regional coroner Bruce Chamberlayne identified the victim as 55-year-old Kamloops man Gary Kenneth Pengelly.

He was walking through a crosswalk at the intersection of First Avenue and St. Paul Street at about 11:30 a.m. when he was struck by a motorcycle being driven by an unidentified 31-year-old man.

The motorcycle driver has yet to be charged, but Mounties have said they received reports moments before the incident about him driving erratically.

Another witness has also said they saw the man perform a "wheelie" at the intersection of First Avenue and Seymour Street — just a block from where the collision took place.

The motorcycle driver was also hurt in the wreck, though his injuries were said to be non-life-threatening.

Kamloops RCMP Sgt. Scott Wilson said the investigation into the incident is ongoing, and police are still looking for additional witnesses.

Anyone who saw the collision — or the motorcyclist in the moments leading up to it — is asked to call Kamloops Mounties at 250-828-3000.
