Kamloops Mounties are looking for the public’s help in piecing together the moments leading up to a collision that killed a pedestrian walking through a downtown crosswalk on Sunday.
RCMP Sgt. Scott Wilson said investigators need more information from people who saw what happened.
“Witnesses play a large role in these investigations,” he said.
“The mechanical side of the motorcycle, that will be taken care of.
“But we really do rely on information from witnesses.”
A 56-year-old man was killed when he was struck by a motorcycle heading north on First Avenue crossing St. Paul Street.
The 31-year-old driver of the motorcycle was also treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police have said they believe the bike was being driven erratically in the moments leading up to the collision.
Wilson said it’s still unclear whether the driver will be charged, either criminally or under the Motor Vehicle Act.
“To be charged with something criminally, there has to be some criminal intent or some act — wanton disregard for the safety of others,” Wilson said.
“That’s the criteria for dangerous driving.
“Whereas with the Motor Vehicle Act, intent doesn’t have to be as big of an issue.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000.
