A pair of Kamloops men facing charges in connection with a $3-million theft ring will find out Wednesday if they will be granted bail.
Cameron McElroy and Zachary Martin sat quietly in a Kamloops courtroom Tuesday as lawyers argued during a four-hour bail hearing.
The evidence heard during the hearing, which was attended by about 20 of the pair's supporters, is covered by a court-ordered publication ban and can't be reported.
However, following the arrest of the two 20-year-olds on June 2, police said they were responsible for a string of break-and-enters stretching from B.C. to Manitoba.
At a press conference the following week, Kamloops RCMP Sgt. Scott Wilson described the "sophisticated" break-ins as "organized crime" with possible gang links.
Police allege the two suspects made off with more than $3 million worth of jewelry, cigarettes, electronics and cash over a nine-month span.
According to police, local businesses targeted include Thompson Rivers University, Fresh is Best Salsa, Petro-Canada in Dallas, Booster Juice, Chatters Hair Salon, The Rice Bowl, Old Town Farm Market, Taco Del Mar, On The Rocks Pub, Quizno's, Tony Roma's, Nature's Fare, Panago Pizza and Fas Gas in Westsyde.
McElroy and Martin are also charged in connection with break-ins in other Interior communities, including Merritt, Salmon Arm, 100 Mile House, Kelowna and Penticton.
In addition to the B.C. charges, both were charged in Winnipeg in February for a separate alleged break-in.
They were free on bail at the time of their arrests in Kamloops.
McElroy, a Thompson Rivers University business student, is facing 19 counts of break-and-enter.
Martin, meanwhile, has been charged with 24 counts of break-and-enter and two additional breach charges.
