Less than a year after touching down at Fulton Field, WestJet is expanding its service in Kamloops.

The airline will announce its fall schedule today, which will include the addition of a new daily non-stop flight to Vancouver starting in November.

WestJet said the new service has always been in the company’s plans.

“We thought it was a good time to do it,” Chris Avery, WestJet’s vice-president of revenue and planning, told KTW.

He noted the Calgary service, which was added last December, has been doing quite well for the airline and suggested the company has developed good partnerships in Kamloops.

The new flight will leave Fulton Field at 10:45 a.m. and arrive in Vancouver at 11:41 a.m.

The return flight leaves Vancouver at 12:30 p.m. and arrives in Kamloops at 1:20 p.m.

The new service is expected open the city to international markets and guests.

The Calgary flight provides connections to most of WestJet’s domestic and U.S. network.

The 737 jets used by the airline also have the ability to carry everything from large bags to skis and bicycles.

Avery suggested the bigger planes are an advantage for a community like Kamloops with its skiing and sporting opportunities.
