A Kamloops teen who violated his bail conditions by getting drunk during Canada Day festivities at Riverside Park will be spending his weekends in jail for the next few months.
Shane Londry, who was found drunk by police during the July 1 celebrations in downtown Kamloops, pleaded guilty on Thursday to breaching his bail, theft and assault.
The 19-year-old was originally arrested in May after threatening an employee at the London Drugs on Lansdowne Street with a knife while stealing videos from the store.
He was later released on bail under a number of strict conditions — including one banning him from consuming alcohol.
Londry, who works as a cook at a Sahali restaurant, was then spotted by police during celebrations at Riverside Park on Wednesday, struggling to stand up straight and noticeably drunk.
Following his arrest, he was immediately remorseful.
"Mr. Londry began to cry and stated that he shouldn't have drank and knew what he was doing was wrong," said Crown prosecutor Will Burrows.
"Mr. Londry said he knew he shouldn't be drinking and wanted to, 'go up to KRCC [Kamloops Regional Correctional Centre] and get things dealt with.'"
Londry again expressed his remorse in the courtroom.
"Sorry's the only word I can keep on running through my head," he said.
"I have a serious drinking problem and yesterday I made the wrong choice . . . I want help."
Kamloops provincial court Judge Stella Frame sentenced Londry to 37 days in jail, to be served on the weekends so he can keep his job.
