A Kamloops woman will spend the next seven years behind bars after trying to smuggle more than $2 million worth of cocaine into Canada.

Debra Lynch pleaded guilty Thursday to drug charges following her arrest May 5 at the Canada/U.S. border crossing that separates Osoyoos from Oroville, Wash.

The 31-year-old was a passenger in a van that was searched at the border and found to be containing 31 kilograms of neatly wrapped cocaine.

The driver of the van, Lee Myers, has not entered a plea and is facing charges of importing a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

The 24-year-old, from the Williams Lake area, is expected to return to court on Monday, June 29 for a bail hearing.
