Fire prompts evacuation at downtown hotel

Dozens of people needed to be evacuated from the Executive Inn hotel downtown after a blaze broke out shortly before 5 p.m. Saturday evening.

Flames could be seen shooting from second floor of the hotel on the Lansdowne Street side of the building, as fire crews worked to put out the fire.

Victoria Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues was blocked off to traffic for a time.

Hotel staff reported the fire broke out on the second floor in the maids' room.

Kamloops firefighters are investigating the fire, but a cause has yet been determined.

It was also unclear when the hotel would open up again to guests.

BC Ambulance service treated several people for mild smoke inhalation at the scene.

The fire caused the closure of the Lake City Casino, which operates on the ground floor of the hotel.
