City real-estate firms join forces

Two longtime Kamloops real estate firms — Kamloops Commercial Properties and MCM Real Estate Ltd. — are joining forces to create MCM Real Estate Ltd.

Ernie Beadle and Larry Good are with Kamloops Commercial Properties and Mona and Chris Murray represent MCM Real Estate.

“We’re looking forward to offering our clients and customers better service than ever before,” Beadle said, noting MCM Real Estate will now be the first and only commercial real-estate firm in Kamloops.

MCM has formed an association with Franchiselink, a Vancouver firm that specializes in promoting, selling and developing new franchise opportunities for restaurants, food outlets, retail and specialty stores.

New IHA CFO

Donna Lommer is hitting the Interior Health Authority’s books.

Lommer has been appointed the new chief financial officer (CFO) for the health authority.

With nearly 20 years experience working within the IHA, CEO Murray Ramsden said she has demonstrated progressive growth within the organization through her many years of experience in the financial area, including capital projects.

“I am confident that, with her many years of experience, Ms. Lommer is well-qualified to provide the leadership and financial acumen necessary to guide Interior Health through the years ahead,” Ramsden said.

“I have no doubt that the coming years are sure to be challenging and exciting as we complete the impressive capital projects already underway.”

Some of those include the Kelowna General Hospital and Vernon Jubilee Hospital towers, the development of the Interior Heart and Surgical Centre and the UBC Medical School in Kelowna.

Before becoming CFO, Lommer worked in financial services, was program administrator for residential and palliative care for the Okanagan Health Service Area and has overseen the development of many new residential beds, the standardization of services and numerous other changes within the seniors and palliative-care area for the Okanagan.

This spring, she was asked to take on the role of corporate director of strategic alignment where she led the organization through a challenging budget-management process.

Lommer takes over the position from past CFO Chris Mazurkewich, who left the IHA to take a position in Alberta.

The CFO is responsible for the strategic leadership of financial services, facilities management and strategic business development portfolios.

Lommer formally took on the responsibilities of CFO on Oct. 26.

Under the gavel

The 46th annual Kiwanis Radio Auction will take place on Monday, Nov. 9 and Tuesday, Nov. 10.

This year, two Kamloops clubs have joined forces to bring the auction to the community.

The Kiwanis Downtown Club will assist the longtime operator, the Kiwanis Club of Kamloops, in preparing and presenting the annual fundraiser, from which proceeds go to various volunteer organizations in the city.

The clubs focus on helping youth.

The auction will begin at 6.30 p.m. on Nov. 9 and Nov. 10 and will be broadcast radio station B100 for four hours each night.

The auction phone number is 250-374-4131 and pre-bids on any item can be made from 6 p.m. onward.

Auction items and information are published on pages A11-A14 in today’s edition of Kamloops This Week, which is a major sponsor of the event.

Extra auction sheets are available at various convenience stores and coffee shops in Kamloops, at Petro-Canada stations in Barriere and Chase and at Extra Foods and 7-Eleven stores in Merritt.

This year’s auction has a record 415 items, all donated by Kamloops businesses and service companies.
