Theatre hosts Latin films

El Bano del Papa (The Pope’s Toilet) kicks off the first Latin American Film Festival in Kamloops on Nov. 4.
The movie, which was made in Jurguay, is at times comedy and at other times, drama, as it takes a look at a small town awaiting the arrival of Pope John Paul II.
As the population grows from tourist and pilgrims coming to see the head of the Roman Catholic church, a small-time crook decides he can make money if he charges people to use a toilet on his front lawn.
And, as with many movies, the plan goes awry.
The following night sees Rudo Y Cursi, a Mexico-U.S. co-produiction of two labourers with bigger dreams than their realities and the repurcussions when they follow those dreams.
The festival is being sponsored by the Canadian Latin American Society, a new organization in Kamloops.
Both films are at the Paramount Theatre, 504 Victoria St.
Admission is $7.
