Searching for shredders

The people who book the bands for Pogue Mahone Irish Alehouse are looking for some truly raw talent.
For a $10 entry fee, wannabe Joe Satrianis and Slashes can enter the Pogue’s So You Think You Can Shred contest’s first round.
Sean McLeod, the pub’s food, beverage and promotions manager, said the plan — depending on the number of contestants — is to give each guitar hero between 30 seconds and one minute on Nov. 12 to show their stuff.
A panel of four judges with backgrounds in guitars will decide on the entrants who will make it through to the finals on Nov. 19.
McLeod said first prize is an LTD M-400 guitar, second place a guitar tuner and gift pack and third place a gift pack.
McLeod said he’s amazed at the quality of musicianship in the city, identifying Duo #2 and Devon and Kevin as just a couple of examples of great music being created locally.
He’s hopeful the contest might just ferret out some more — or at least set up some healthy competition.
Registration can be done at the pub, 843 Desmond St., or at Sonic Sound and Light, 388 Tranquille Rd.
