Shooting someone with a pellet gun is not a joke.

That’s the message from Kamloops Mounties following a pair of BB-gun shootings over the weekend.

“Sometimes people do these things and they think it’s a joke and a lark because it doesn’t cause any harm, but it can cause harm,” said RCMP Const. Bernie Ward.

Police believe the same person could be responsible for both shootings — one outside a Tranquille Road apartment building on Saturday night and the other in Upper Sahali a day later.

In the first instance, a man was hit by one of the pellets but didn’t suffer serious injuries.

On Sunday, a woman was hit in the hand after someone fired at her from a passing vehicle near Summit and Hollyburn drives.

Ward said there’s nothing funny about pellet gun shootings.

“The joke can lead to such serious ramifications,” he said, noting criminal charges could be followed by a lawsuit if injuries are serious.

“You could basically ruin your life by causing harm to somebody with what started out as a joke.”

Mounties are looking for a male in his 20s in relation to the shootings.

The vehicle involved in Sunday’s incident is described as a newer-model Subaru Legacy station wagon with a unique two-tone paint job — metallic green on top and light tan or beige below.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 250-828-3000. or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
