Some metal, some melody in clubs this week

The punk-metal band that looks like it’s composed of extras from a Rob Zombie movie is on tour.

Fattooth heads out on its Natural Disaster tour — named for its debut recording — on Saturday (July 18) with a gig in Thunder Bay, Ont., and then heads west, landing in Kamloops on Aug. 6 at the Dirty Jersey, 1200 Eighth St.

It’s difficult to describe this band’s music, although if you think Lordi with a singer you can actually understand, you may come close.

For something completely different

Here Is What It Is, an independent experimental band, is playing The Leisure Loft, 255 Victoria St., on Aug. 3.

The unsigned band — Jess Park on vocals, guitar and keyboard, Dave Park on vocals and guitar, Sam Cantelon on vocals, guitar and keyboard, James Cole on bass, keyboard and laptop and James Molnar on drums — has been pulling together the past two years and will be releasing an EP, Done Before It Starts, on July 28.

Asha in the West

Asha is touring for her new albun, Things We Don’t Say, and she plans a stop in her old hometown of Kamloops on Thursday (July 23) at the Commodore Cafe and Lounge, 369 Victoria St.

The singer-songwriter describes her sound as something akin to Emm Gryner, the Stars and Metric — with a dose of The Killers thrown in, as well.

The new album is less acoustic than her last one, Livin’ Here, having more of an electronica edge.

Opening for the 8 p.m. show (cover charge is $7) are Boy & Gurl, another lyrics-driven act composed of Jarred Nicklen (Boy) and Crystal McGrath (you guessed it, Gurl).
