Joey’s Seafood Restaurants want its mascot, Finley the fish, to go on vacation — and record it for a contest.

Company creative and marketing manager Dave Holland said the contest, which runs to Sept. 7, is open to anyone over the age of 19 who wants to take a photograph of a Finley plush toy having some summertime fun.

Winning photographers will receive a $300 gift card or one of five $50 gift cards to franchise restaurants.

The toys are available for purchase at the restaurants. The Kamloops outlet is at 1815 Rogers Place.

Enjoy these oils

Oils to Enjoy continues at the Kamloops Arts Council Main Gallery to Aug. 1.

The exhibition by Howard Swaren involves a variety of landscapes, animals, sea scenes and portraits.

The gallery has relocated to the Old Courthouse Cultural Centre, 7 Seymour St. W.

The previous location at Cunliffe House has been closed.

Swaraen is at the exhibition every Thursday afternoon during Bizarre Bazaar.

And under the Glass

Crimson Solarium: An Experiment in Human Photosynthesis continues at the Kamloops Art Gallery to Aug. 16.

The show has turned the Gallery Under Glass into a crimson greenhouse with a variety of domestic items that are bathed in what artist Melanie Perreault says “invites speculation about photosynthesis replacing digestion as the human body’s primary source of energy, thereby reducing the need for food production and lessening our carbon footprint.”

Over at Arnica

Outside the Lines, an exhibition by Salmon Arm artist Amy Modahl, opens on Thursday (July 16) at the Arnica Artist Run Centre in the Old Courthouse Cultural Centre, 7 Seymour St. W.

The show, based on the Dick and Jane early readers — the characters are renamed Janet and John —  is described as “a view inside an idealized anytime. It’s a simple world free from dirt, grime, argument or question.”

The gallery is open Tuesdays to Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with extended hours on Thursday to 8 p.m., and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
