Oh flower of Scotland, when will we see your like again?
The answer to the question posed in the bonnie country’s national anthem is Saturday at Albert McGowan Park, when the Highland Games come to Kamloops.
“It’s a feast for the eyes and ears,” said Jim Harker, event co-ordinator.
“Even if you don’t have any Scottish heritage, it’s always nice to be a part of and see what other cultures have to offer.”
Sixteen bands — including the world-famous Simon Fraser Pipe Band — from across the Pacific Northwest will play their bagpipes and drums in competition.
The music will serve as a soundtrack for those taking in the highland dancing and heavy-throw competitions.
Heavy-throw events include the caber toss, weight throw, weight over the bar, hammer throw, stone put and sheaf toss.
Tents will be set up on-site by Scottish patriots who will be selling memorabilia unique to their homeland.
Those wishing to trace their heritage and find out what clan they belong to will be able to do so free of charge.
Plenty of Scottish food will be available and a beer garden will be available for thirsty lads and lassies.
Gates open at 7:30 a.m. and the event continues until around 3 p.m.
Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children and seniors.
