A week after filing for bankruptcy, Petcetera is closing all of its 45 stores, including the outlet in Aberdeen.
The store on Hillside Drive is expected to be closed by the end of the summer, if not sooner.
Great American Group, a retail liquidation company from the U.S., will be carrying out a 10-week going-out-of-business sale in all of the pet store’s locations.
The sale started June 24.
The company filed for bankruptcy on June 16.
Though the closure will mean one less pet store in the Kamloops area, the liquidation firm insists consumers “will benefit from the exceptional values and deepening discounts until all of the merchandise is sold.”
In March, the Canadian retailer filed for creditor protection and started a 60-day nationwide inventory sale.
At the time, Petcetera blamed the impact of the recession for the company’s financial problems.
Petcetera’s website noted the company’s 704 chain-wide employees will be rehired to help with the liquidation.
