The Sicamous Eagles were unable to weather the Kamloops Storm last week, but came down hard on the Princeton Posse and the Chase Chiefs with back-to-back wins of 5-4 and 8-2.
The Storm dominated hosts the Sicamous Eagles in frames one and two of their Oct. 28 contest, potting three goals in the first and three in the second. The final goal of the second period, however, went to Sicamous’ Scott Fellnermayr, aided by Jean-Luc Fournier and Derek Husiman. The goal provided the Eagles with a second wind going into the third period, where they dominated shooting and managed two more goals, both courtesy of Jarryd Tenvaanholt, with assists by Aaron Buat, Andy Milne and Jordan Hynes. But it was too little, too late for the Eagles, who wound up on the losing side of a 6-3 decision.
Tenvaanholt was awarded the game’s second star.
In their Oct. 30 game against guests the Princeton Posse it was the Eagles who came out strong. Sicamous dominated the first period with goals going to Mark Arnold, Kenneth McKay and Tenvaanholt. Assists went to Husiman, Daryl Devries, Mike Piderman, Mike Collins, Buat and Garret Earley. Sicamous stayed strong in the second frame but wasn’t able to find the back of the net. Princeton, however, was able to take advantage of two power plays, scoring once in each. In the final frame both teams scored twice, with Sicamous goals made by Buat and Cain Franson, and assists by Hynes, Milne, Fellnermayr and Earley.
Game first star was awarded to Hynes, while third went to Collins.
A 300-plus hometown crowd was unable to help their Chase Chiefs to a win in Nov. 1 action against the Eagles. Chase managed to be first on the board, but the rest of the period belonged to Sicamous, with goals going to Husiman and Earley, and assists to Bob Turnbull, Devries, Tenvaanholt and Buat. The Chiefs kicked up their effort in the second frame but the period was scoreless. Sicamous obliterated the Chiefs in the third frame, with goals going to Fellnermayr, Husiman, Riley Muise, Devries and Buat. Chase’s Doug Devries managed an unassisted goal.
Husiman was awarded first star, and is currently the KIJHL’s second top player at 30 points, with 18 goals in 17 games. Devries received second star and Kenneth McKay third.
The Eagles now sit in third place in the KIJHL with 23 points, topped by Kamloops with 27 and the Revelstoke Grizzlies at 32.
The Eagles face off again against Kamloops in Sicamous at 7 p.m. on Nov. 6.
