Clearwater Secondary School boys’ soccer team got a nice start to the season Wednesday evening with a 4 – 2 win over Kamloops Christian School.
“It went very well,” said assistant coach Ian Eakins. “I think they played a really solid game. Aaron Murray got two, Jesse Akers got one, and Aiden Sim, who’s in Grade 8, got a beautiful goal. Ezra (Persad) fed it to him, he blew by the defense and top-shelfed it.”
This year’s team has some excellent athletes in it and Eakins felt there is a good chance of making it to the Zones.
“That’s my goal for this year, the Zones,” he said, noting that would put them up against some of the bigger schools in the Okanagan – tough competition but good education for the boys.
Several of the good athletes in this year’s team are in Grade 8 so Eakins predicts even greater success in future years.
The big challenge now, however, is to keep the team together as hockey and volleyball get going.
