Clearwater Community Soccer Association sent a small but talented squad to Ashcroft on Saturday, Sept. 19, to compete in the first ever Ashcroft Invitational U16 Tournament. The team did incredibly well and showed both talent and determination in finishing third out of five teams.
"We only had one sub,” said stand-in coach Peter Persad "That meant that the kids had to play four straight games, with each game being one hour long, with little or no rest time."
The Clearwater team finished with a two wins, one tie and one loss record and narrowly missed finishing in first place.
"We were up 2 – 0 and had to settle for a tie with the team that ultimately won the tournament,” said Persad.
The team wishes to thank Greg Yeomans for coaching and assembling the team, Ian Eakins for organizing the berth and Susan Murray for helping with transportation. Much thanks also goes to the Clearwater Minor Soccer Association for posting the $150 tournament entry fee.
"These players should be very proud of their accomplishment. There were many compliments from other coaches regarding the skill-level of our athletes as well as their conditioning,” Persad added.
