Forestry roads radio survey complete
Two radio communications pilot projects have recently been completed on the Coast and in the Northern Interior.
The desired outcomes of pilot projects are to improve safety on forest roads through:
• Ensuring radio calling procedures are consistent, well-understood and practiced by all radio users on all forest roads.
• Ensuring radio frequencies/channels are consistent and well-understood by all radio users on forest roads.
• Consideration for consistent standardized signage across
forest roads to enhance safety for all users.
The discussion paper coming out of the pilots is now available for your review and comment. The paper focuses on several components leading towards a provincial standardized radio communications protocol, including:
• Radio channel standardization and rationalization
• Radio equipment
• Call procedures
• Signage
• Cost and funding considerations
• Education and communication
