Allowing opposition leaders to vote freely

I must inform you all that I do not own a gun but I do not believe that this $2 billion long-gun registry fiasco will help crime prevention.

Candice Hoeppner, M.P. for Portage-Lisgar in Manitoba, recently put forward with a private member’s bill - C-391 - that focuses solely on scrapping the long-gun registry. It should, therefore, be more acceptable to a broader range of MPs. The bill, which was seconded by Breitkreuz, is on the Order Paper and will be debated this fall.

The long-gun registry has been a wasteful fiasco from inception through execution. Taxpayers might finally get satisfaction with the passage of Ms. Hoeppner’s Bill C-391.

Although the Conservatives have consistently stated their opposition to the long gun registry, the other parties have not. It is crucial that opposition MPs be given the opportunity to vote freely and not along party lines.

Here are the names of the following leaders to find out their contact info or use the email address provided. Tell them to give their MPs the freedom to support this bill.

• Stephen Harper, Conservative: pm@pm.gc.ca

• Michael Ignatieff, Liberal: IgnatM@parl.gc.ca

• Jack Layton, New Democratic: LaytoJ@parl.gc.ca

• Gilles Duceppe, Bloc Quebecois: DucepG@parl.gc.ca

I personally send each and every member and senator my feelings on this and other items. I do get answers from some of them regardless of party. I have an email list of all these people made up. Anyone interested in this list can contact me at slyolfart@gmail.com and I will be glad to pass the list on to you.
