Count is on to order birthday calendar
Dear friends and neighbors –
Hi there. Good to talk to you again. It has been nice to talk to so many of you in person downtown these last few weeks while we have been doing the Birthday Calendars. Don’t forget, by the end of the month we will be wrapping up this year’s campaign. Once again I apologize for our not going door to door – but hope that you will have had a chance to catch us downtown – or have phoned to reserve one at my home (250-674-3260). If I did not phone you back or come to see you, it may be that the message got erased because of power surge or something. So be sure and call again.
The names are in for the ‘Of the Year’ nominations and we congratulate all those whose names are brought forward. Remember that part of the honor is in being nominated. So, if you are in that category, congratulations. Yes, all will be welcome to the celebration evening on Oct. 16 at the Wells Gray Inn. Phone in for dinner reservations.
I see they have upped the taxes and not a word of worry in that department. You know the ones? It’s called the Lotto – grin – and I see that two weeks ago you were only allowed to spend just over $100 a week on online gambling, but (luckily for someone) you are now allowed to spend up to $10,000. Lordy, Lordy, it certainly won’t take long for the big guys to strip us of every remaining penny at that rate, will it? And what are your chances of winning? Well, I hear you have a much better chance of being struck twice by lightning in your life than you have of winning big even once. At the same time programs to help people overcome addictions are being cancelled. What does that mean? All I can think of is that it is time to be responsible for your own self, friends, because frankly they don’t give a darn!
Talk to your neighbors, turn off the TV and help out your neighbours, be in charge of your own destiny. We can survive, together. We can flounder in depression in isolation – alone. I know what I have chosen. How about you?
On a happier note, I am off to the Coast to represent the Valley in a foody conference – speaking on mapping in a panel, helping with registrations – you know the routine.
Enjoy your life. Get ready for the indoor markets. They will soon be advertized!
