Clearwater council continues to connect with local students.

During last Tuesday’s council meeting, two members of the Clearwater Secondary School Senior Boys volleyball team successfully asked councilors for $500 to help the school host the Single A Provincial Volleyball Championships on Nov. 26 – 28.

The money is needed especially to pay for referees, Dustin Wurm and Dylan Hiebert told council. Because of the level of play expected, more highly qualified referees will be required.

Financial help also is needed to pay for medals and to print the agenda or schedule.

The tournament should bring 10 –12 teams and over 200 people to town for three days, which should have a significant economic effect.

Junior Council sworn in

Clearwater corporate administrator Leslie Groulx administered an oath of office to the new Junior Council.

The oath was modeled on the one members of town council swear to when they take office.

The District took former Junior Council president Cara Pelton and incoming president Jesse Akers to the recent Union of B.C. Municipalities convention in Vancouver.

The presence of the two created a great deal of interest among other municipalities in forming their own Junior Councils.

Councilor Christy Dobi said, “To quote Jesse Akers, ‘I’m going to have to get some business cards.’”

Bert Walker told the Junior Council

members, “You’re leaders. There is no other Junior Council in the province,”
