Sandra Holmes awarded Citizen of the Year
Citizen of the Year Sandra Holmes
Sandra Holmes is Clearwater’s new Citizen of the Year.
Clearwater and District Chamber of Commerce made the announcement during an awards ceremony held last Friday evening at Clearwater Valley Resort KOA.
According to the person who nominated her, Holmes “… is an all around outstanding citizen. She volunteers her time and energy to a wide variety of organizations. From selling fair trade coffee for the local United Church, promoting community development internationally, to volunteering for the canoe regatta and helping organize the Clearwater Volcano and Trails Society, Sandra tries to do it all.”
Employee of the Year went to Guy Holland. According to his nomination papers, “Holland makes Safety Mart a welcome spot to shop. He is always good natured and helpful when a customer asks for assistance. Nothing is a bother for Guy.”
Merissa Sollows is Youth of the Year. “Merissa and her family organized many fundraisers for the Grad Class, including the Fun Fair,” wrote her nominator. “Merissa and her sister also helped at many of the awareness activities of the North Thompson Aboriginal Council, Success by Six events, at the beach during the Canoe Regatta, and at North Thompson Fair. She is great with children and during the summer held down two jobs at Summer Fun Days for Yellowhead Community Services.”
Winner of the Retail/Service Business of the Year was Wells Gray Home Hardware. According to the
nomination papers, “The staff is courteous, helpful and well informed of the products being sold.
The layout of the store is well marked, with signs on each aisle to indicate items available. They have the biggest selection of fishing and hunting supplies in the local area. They also represent and have a local Sears catalog order desk and depot.”
Riverside Adventures and Fitness Center got the nod as Tourism Business of the Year. “Both Robert and Lianna Beaudry, the owners of Riverside Adventures and Fitness Center, are community minded,” wrote the person who nominated the business. “Robert is involved with the rafting, canoeing and kayaking section of the business. They provide fully guided trips on the two major rivers in the Clearwater area. Lianna is involved with the Fitness Center as well as a bed and breakfast.”
