Tighter control wanted on guns
To the editor;
Re; ‘Gun Registry costly for taxpayers’, Oct. 19, issue.
The money to pay for the gun registry and licensing apparatus should come from the gun owners (after all, I pay my own way through my car registration fees).
But the real issue is that we need tighter controls on guns in this country.
My son was one of thousands at Montreal’s Dawson College on September 13, 2006, the day Kimveer Gill apparently tired of photographing himself posing “big ‘n bad” with his assault rifle and his Glock, and motored on downtown to take Stacy DeSousa’s life.
You know what? Stacy DeSousa’s right to life was more important than Kimveer Gill’s right to play with guns.
We make such determinations all the time in a free society. That’s why we don’t allow people to own rocket launchers, for example.
To those who say guns are part of Canada’s heritage, I say so was slavery. Should we bring that back, too?
