Welder found
Oct. 30 police recovered an Oxo welder from the bush behind Barnes Lake. The matter is still under investigation as police try to determine if it was stolen and from where.
Wrong license plate
Oct. 30 at 11:24 am police checked a license plate on a vehicle in Ashcroft and the plate came back as stolen out of Surrey. A 42 year old woman was arrested and charged with having no insurance, no drivers license and having the wrong plates. The vehicle was seized.
Liquor to minors
Oct. 30 police followed up on a concern from the Ashcroft Liquor Store that a 28 year old Ashcroft man was selling liquor to minors. The matter is still under investigation.
Prohibited driver
Oct. 30 at 4:15 pm police stopped a vehicle in Ashcroft when the truck was noted to be missing a front plate. The driver, a 31 year old Cache Creek man, showed the officer the plate and was allowed to leave. A later check on the plate showed the driver to be served a prohibition notice, which he was, and the vehicle was impounded.
Target practice
Oct. 31 at 9:20 pm police received a complaint of youths throwing rocks at a parked semi truck in downtown Ashcroft, breaking the windows. The youths were not located.
Passport missing
Nov. 1 a 55 year old Ashcroft man reported that his passport was missing from his residence. The passport number was added to a national database.
Canine hitchhiker
Nov. 1 a Kamloops man attended the Ashcroft Detachment with a dog that had jumped into the back of his pickup in Lac La Hache and wouldn’t get out. The SPCA was advised and posters put up in Lac La Hache, 100 Mile House and other nearby communities. The dog is a female about 20 pounds, light brown with long hair. Police are still looking for her owner.
Impaired driving
Nov. 1 at 12:25 am police stopped a vehicle in 70 Mile House and noticed an odour of liquor in the vehicle. The driver, a 61 year old woman from 70 Mile House, failed a roadside test and provided two samples for a Breathalyzer test of .130 and .130. She was charged with driving while impaired and having blood alcohol exceeding .08.
Angry at report
Nov. 2 at 10:06 am police were notified of threatening behaviour by a parent towards a staff member at Ashcroft Secondary School over a report made to the Ministry of Children and Families. The 39 year old Cache Creek man made angry comments to the staff member who felt threatened. No charges were laid.
Excessive speed
Nov. 2 at 3:26 pm police stopped a vehicle for excessive speed just north of Lillooet. The 19 year old Lillooet man was driving 115 kph in a 60 kph zone. There was a strong smell of marijuana in the vehicle although no drugs were found. He was given a 24 hour suspension for drugs and a ticket for driving contrary to his N restriction. His vehicle was impounded. The fine for driving 55 kph over the speed limit is $483.
Calf butchered
Nov. 2 at 3:54 pm the remains of a butchered calf belonging to a local ranch were found near Wastech. The head, tail, skin and hooves were all that remained. Police have one suspect.
Cow heading east
Nov. 2 at 11:52 pm police received a report of a cow on the road at the intersection of Hwy 1 and Hwy 97 in Cache Creek. It was heading east but was not located.
Theft from vehicles
Nov. 3 police received a complaint from Chanors Towing that a set of wrenches had been stolen from one of the tow trucks parked in its yard. Thefts have occurred from several vehicles in the compound in the past six weeks. Anyone seeing anything suspicious in that area is asked to phone police at 453-2216.
Assault alleged
Nov. 4 at 8:15 pm police received a 911 call from the Ashcroft Reserve from a 51 year old woman who said she had been assaulted by her 18 year old stepson. Police attended and found both parties intoxicated with no evidence of an assault. The parties were separated for the night. No charges were laid.
New driver crash
Oct. 27 - RCMP attended a single vehicle collision on the highway at 4 am where a vehicle had veered off the road. Two female occupants managed to escape with minor injuries, however the vehicle was destroyed. The attending member determined that the driver had consumed alcohol and was issued a 24 hour driving prohibition as well as a violation ticket for being under the influence as a “New” Driver.
High at school
Oct. 27 - Police attended Stein Valley Nlakapamux School after receiving a report of two students smoking marijuana. The two male students were searched and a small quantity of cannabis was located. The students were suspended for possessing the controlled substance on school property.
Truckers tangle
Oct. 28 - RCMP were dispatched to a fight in progress at 7:30 am on the Trans-Canada Highway near the Nicomen Reserve between two male transport truck drivers. A bout of road rage ensued after one of the drivers became angered as he was being tailgated by the other driver. The lead driver stopped his rig in the middle of the highway and approached the tailgating driver which had stopped as well. After a heated argument, the two engaged in a consensual fight on the highway. The battered and bruised drivers were not interested in charges and refused to cooperate with the Police investigation.
Post-party eviction
Oct. 29 - In the morning police responded to an apartment complex on North Spencer Rd. after a female complained that her neighbours had been rowdy all night causing her to miss out on sleep. A member attended and heard the rambunctious duo playing loud music and banging on the walls. After speaking with the intoxicated couple, it was obvious that the female was going to cause further problems as she boasted to police that she was going to cause havoc with her neighbours. She was arrested for breaching the peace and brought back to cells where she was held until sober. Upon her release, RCMP served the female an eviction notice prepared by the management of the apartment and directed her to drug and alcohol counselling.
A place to cool off
Oct. 30 - While on routine patrol, RCMP observed two males threatening each other on Main St. Police interrupted the quarrel arresting one of the males for causing a disturbance as he was intoxicated. For his drunken actions, police kindly gave the male a place to sober up in lockup saving the general public from having to tolerate the questionable behaviour. The male was charged under the LCLA for being intoxicated in a public place.
Parking lot crash
Oct. 31 - RCMP received a report that a male driver was injured in a single vehicle collision at the parking lot of Kumsheen Secondary School after a female passenger vacated the vehicle and sought medical attention. Police attended and found the driver still slumped over the steering wheel, while the vehicle was propped on a cement no-post. The driver was not injured, however was found to be grossly intoxicated. He was arrested for having care and control of a motor vehicle. He was brought back to the Lytton Detachment where he provided two samples of his breath, both of which were just over twice the legal limit. The driver was served a three month driving prohibition and will have to appear in Lillooet Provincial Court on Dec. 7 to answer to criminal charges for having care and control of the motor vehicle while impaired.
Passengers injured
Nov. 1 - RCMP attended the Lytton Medical Center after two males in their 20s attended the Center seeking medical attention for obscure injuries. The males were reluctant to talk about how they sustained their injuries, however police were informed that they had been involved in a car collision. A male driver of the involved vehicle had fled the area on foot stranding his injured passengers. Police located the driver and found him to be under the influence of alcohol. He was given a 24 hour driving prohibition and a violation ticket for failing to remain at the scene of a collision. In addition to the charges, the vehicle was impounded.
