Ashcroft hoping for arena dehumidifier
The Drylands Arena will be getting a little drier if the Village of Ashcroft can raise another $30,000 to go with two other grants it has received this year to buy and install a dehumidifier in the arena.
Northern Development Trust Initiative just announced a grant of up to $30,000 for the project, and earlier this summer a $30,000 grant was announced under the federal Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program. The total cost of the project is $90,000.
Administrator Michelle Allen said condensation in the arena forms on the beams and drips onto the surface of the ice where it has to be scraped off. The moisture also causes rust inside the building.
She says the dehumidifier for the arena has been in the Village plans for 20 years.
