Artists explore their creativity

The Ashcroft Arts Club held its first monthly meeting on Oct. 7, and the members are happy to be back together for the next season.

To start the creative juices flowing there was a live model drawing session. Hopefully we will have another productive season culminating in our annual Show and Sale in April.

Over the summer, some members were to travel up to Clinton for a day of plien aire painting, but unfortunately the forest fire in the area interfered. Several members attended workshops, stretching their talent and just having fun.

We have members working in water colour, acrylic, oil, oil pastels, and some of us work in graphite pencil. One of our members has done several bronze statuettes. As you can see there is a wide range and when I joined as a total novice, I tried several different media before settling on a favorite.

If you wish to take part in the monthly Art Attacks, you might want to start on Nov. 4 when we will be doing self portrait drawing. Bring a mirror and your bag lunch. (Coffee and tea available on site.) No one will be expected to produce a masterpiece, but stranger things have happened. There is a nominal fee for non-members.

The Membership is considering a change to our policy of having to attend the monthly meetings in order to have our pieces in the Show and Sale. Those who work during the day are unable to attend, and we are therefore missing out on some fine talent in the area.

We would welcome new members, men and women, with any level of interest or ability in fine art from novice to serious. If you are a novice, there are a number of very talented club members who will assist you in getting started. If you already have experience, you might be able to pass on some technique to the other members.

We meet regularly on Wednesdays at the Anglican Church Hall at 10 am. Call Lois at 453-9595 or Sonja at 453-2543 for more information.
