From the Cache Creek Council meeting of Jan. 25.

Roll Call: Mayor John Ranta and councillors Jim Loucks, Ida Makaro and Darrell Rawcliffe. Missing: Coun. Wyatt McMurray.

Bowling Tournament

Council granted the Seniors’ Association’s request for free use of the Community Hall for two days, plus waiving the usual damage deposit. The Seniors will be holding their annual Bowling Tournament on March 30 and inviting other seniors’ groups from around the area.

Coun. Jim Loucks voted against the motion, saying he didn’t feel the Village should be waiving the refundable damage deposit for anyone.

Landfill Monitoring Committee

Council elected Mayor John Ranta to represent the Village on the new Landfill Monitoring Committee.

Coun. Loucks expressed his interest in sitting on the committee. Chair of the Landfill Advisory Committee, he called it a new step forward and said the duties of the new committee were considerably different.

A secret ballot at the Jan. 11 Council meeting resulted in a tie between Ranta and Loucks. At last week’s Council meeting, Coun. Darrell Rawcliffe called for a motion to appoint Ranta to the position. Only Loucks was opposed.

It was suggested that the councillor put his name forward for one of the public seats when they become available.

Torch Relay

Coun. Ida Makaro reported on the committee’s plans for the Feb. 6 event.

She said the committee was encouraging everyone to dress in red and white.

One of Cache Creek’s torchbearers will be Cora Dunlop from Boston Bar, who phoned to tell her that she was coming with several friends and relatives who wanted to see her carry the Torch.

Makaro said there was quite a bit of interest from surrounding communities who were planning to attend the event.

“We’re going to be hosting, big time,” she said.

Transit Service

Coun. Jim Loucks reported on a recent BC Transit meeting where “several things were discussed, but the major item was the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that did not show up,” he said.

He advised Council that BC Transit was fast tracking the MOU so Cache Creek, Ashcroft and Clinton could finally have an agreement among them.

Ashcroft has to renew its agreement with BC Transit in April, he said, and their agreement with Interior Health is also coming due. IH contributed $50,000 to the local service last year and they are expected to renew that agreement, although the committee will be asking them for a three to four per cent increase.

Council approved payment of the quarterly invoice to the Village of $3,010.40.

Next Meeting

Feb. 8 at 7 pm in the Village Office.
