Connecting in today’s world

“The traditional schools we went to didn’t look like this,” said AES principal Teresa Downs as she explained the technology involved in Connecting Classrooms to parents at an open house last week.

The pilot project connects grades 5-6 in Ashcoft, Lytton and Lillooet via teleconferencing and laptops. All three classes introduced themselves over the teleconferencing screens.

The pilot project is meant to give students a “step up” while getting them engaged and motivated through technology.

Downs went on to say that the program would give students a larger group of peers to connect with and learn fron.

Students from the three classes will met face to face three times throughout the year for human contact.

“It’s only been three weeks,” she told parents, “but the program has taken off.”
