Crest Glory Days
More than 60 people made their way to the Crest Hotel on May 10 for the 23rd annual Crest Glory Days race. Run under overcast skies, the race featured a 10 and five-kilometre road race, as well as a five-kilometre walking course, and that variety of courses helped bring out young and old alike for the event.
In the 12-15 male group in the 10 kilometre race, Sean Stewart placed first with a time of 41:50, Luke Robin was not far behind at 43:06 and Ryan Feser was third at 49:10. In the 16-19 age group, Marc Hrehirchek finished with a time of 48:25, ahead of Braemen Lippke with a time of 52:58, while Jesse Howard, the lone 16-19 female, finished with a time of 54:03. Joseph Nelson clocked the fastest overall time on the course to finish first in the 20-39 male division with a time of 38:07. Marc Monteleone placed second with a time of 42:48 and Michael Esson placed third with a time of 46:58. In the female 20-39 age group it was Quesnel’s Jenny Collins’ placing first with a time of 48:28, followed by Prince George’s Benita Kaytor with a time of 50:24, and Prince Rupert’s Shelley Movold rounding out the top three with a time of 50:40. In the male 40-99 group, Prince George’s John Hagen placed first with a time of 40:26, followed by Steve Merrick of Prince Rupert with a time of 48:45 and Port Edward’s Dave Feser with a time of 51:05. For the female’s it was Suzette Nabone finishing first with a time of 52:32, Hazelton’s Shirley Belisle placing second with a time of 56:48 and Paddy Jones in third at 59:39.
The five-kilometer run had the youngest runner of the event, as Paul Cavin finished in the 1-11 age group with a time of 23:58. Benjamin Mark was the lone male in the 12-15 age group, finishing with a time of 21:56, and the Port Edward duo of Elizabeth and Danielle Feser finished at 25:54 and 27:28 for the female age group. Josh Kettenton, all the way from Clearwater Florida, registered the fastest overall time for the race at 18:37 to take the male 20-39 division, followed by Curtis Crosby and Jas Bedi of Prince Rupert at 23:02 and 29:57 respectively. Jill Seymour was the lone female competitor in the age group, finishing with a time of 34:28. In the 40-99 age group, Kelvin Mark placed first with a time of 20:58, ahead of Terrace’s Murray Warner and Prince Rupert’s Bob Cuthbert, with times of 22:13 and 22:34 respectively. In the ladies 40-99, Margaret Calvin placed first with a time of 27:29, followed by Moira Riley at 33:31 and Barb Leonard at 35:03. 12 people did the 5k walk, with Sam Brunelle finishing first with a time of 44:09, Delaina Belisle placing second with a time of 45:41 and David Bartel placing third at 48:42.
