UPDATE: Saturday H1N1 clinic proceeding as scheduled in Prince Rupert

After cancelling Saturday's planned H1N1 vaccination clinic on Thursday and reinstating it for an undetermined period of time on Friday morning, Northern Health announced on Friday afternoon that the clinic would proceed as scheduled from 11 a.m. to four p.m. tomorrow at the Rupert Square Mall.

The decision comes because the Prince Rupert clinic recently received some extra vaccine.

“It’s all based on the vaccine supply. Everyone knows there is challenges with the speed with which it can be created and distributed…Eventually we will have enough vaccine to immunize everyone who wants it,” said Eryn Collins of Northern Health.

The next scheduled clinics are on November 19 and 26 from 10 a.m. to six p.m. and November 20 and 27 from 10 a.m. to four p.m. at the Prince Rupert Health Unit. Due to the supply concerns Collins said those clinics are still set to target the high-risk groups, those under 65 with chronic health concerns, pregnant women and people in isolated or remote communities and settings, while vaccine dates for the next group of vulnerable people and the general public are yet to be determined.

“It’s less a schedule of event as a process. We know what the next groups are that have been identified as a priority, it’s just a matter of supply as to when we can expand the offering of the vaccine,” said Collins.

Residents are encouraged to check www.northernhealth.ca for updates on the H1N1 clinics in the Northern Health region.

Saturday's clinic was originally scheduled to run from 11 a.m. to four p.m.
