NWCC holds luncheon to honour financial award recipients

NWCC hosted an Awards Luncheon on Thursday for outstanding students who have been awarded bursaries, scholarships and other financial awards. Master of Ceremonies Deb Stava, Campus Principal of NWCC Prince Rupert Campus, presided over the awards presentation.
This year, with support of numerous businesses and organizations the College awarded approximately $83,000 to over 100 students across our college region,” she said.
Awards included the Vancouver Foundation Alma Van Duesen Award, awarded to female students. Recipients were: Crystal-Rae Brown (CCP), Nicole Brown (CCP), Tara Campbell (University Credit), Kaeleen Foote (University Credit), Delphine Barton (Business Admin), May Hill (CCP), Stacey Lavigne (CCP), Treena Ryan (CCP), Tracy Sampson (CCP).
Emily Mlieczko was awarded the Make Children First Award, given on behalf of the Terrace Make Children First Initiative, which is awarded to local students enrolled in the Post Basic Early Childhood Education program. Andrew Laforest (Electrical Apprentice) received the Credit Union Pioneers Memorial Award, awarded by the Credit Union Foundation of B.C.
The Vancouver Foundation Belyea Fund Award was awarded to Jennifer Morgan (Business Admin). In partnership with the Vancouver Foundation, the Belyea Fund was established to help students pursuing post-secondary education.
Shatasha Wesley was the recipient of the Harold Scanlon Foley Award. Foley was a businessman in the forestry and paper industry who also played an important part in the development of educational facilities across the province.
The John Hiom Memorial Scholarship, awarded to Karin Carlson, was “established to provide a lasting memorial to John Hiom’s commitment and dedication to quality science education.”
