THE WOMEN’S indoor soccer season is almost up and running. Currently there are eight teams on the go, with a possible ninth addition. The average roster has 10 to 14 players.
The league runs from just after Thanksgiving until the end of April. The indoor game is not the same as outdoor soccer. It has a quicker pace, and it helps to maintain and develop better ball control, while providing the body with a great cardio work out.
The leagues president, Nathalee Eigeard, says that the league really started growing in the past ten years, and that last year they had over 100 ladies play indoor soccer.
All the games are held at Thornhill Elementary and Thornhill Junior for one hour, with a schedule that gets teams playing at least twice a week.
Nick Kollias, who is a referee for the league, runs indoor soccer clinics for those involved. Kollias also assists players who are struggling and want some extra help.
To play for the season it costs $100, with registration beginning on September 30 and running until October 2 from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Aquatic Centre Board Room.
