Those looking to get their H1N1 vaccine shot next week in Terrace may be out of luck, as Northern Health has tentatively cancelled those clinics due to lack of supply.
“In the case of Terrace, the Nov. 9 and 10 clinic will be cancelled for now,” said Northern Health communications official Eryn Collins.
“It's a matter to ensure that we have enough vaccine on hand to hold a clinic, and we're not confident that we'll have enough for Monday and Tuesday,” she continued.
There is the chance a clinic will be open to the public here next Friday, Nov. 13, but barring that, Collins said clinics will continue Nov. 19, 20, 26 and 27.
“It just depends on vaccine distribution,” she said. “It's a supply and demand issue that we are facing.”
But the vaccine supply has not yet run out here.
“We do have enough for today and tomorrow,” Collins said.
Terrace isn't the only community to have its clinic times change.
“There's changes taking place to clinics to communities across the region,” Collins said, explaining that there may be changes to the Saturday Nov. 6 clinics scheduled in Smithers and Prince Rupert.
“There is the potential for other clinics in the area to be impacted by supply and demand issues,” she said.
Collins urged people to check the Northern Health website before going to the clinics in case there are any changes, but said there was no need for the public to panic.
“We will get all the vaccine we want and need in due time,” she said, stressing that the vaccines are coming in to Northern Health every week.
These first clinics are being offered for those under 65 years of age with chronic illnesses, or pregnant women.
